Spring
Clean Up
During the Week of April 14th
to 19th, 2008, gate fees will be waived at the local area
landfill site to encourage spring clean up. Computer and electronic
recycling has not been scheduled as of yet, please check back next
month for further details.
Quotations – Equipment
The
Township of Prince invites all equipment owners and contractors to
submit information on equipment for rent until 4:00 p.m. April 22nd,
2008. A Certificate of Insurance indicating minimum commercial
general liability coverage of $2 million, and WSIB clearance are
required, as well as proof of safety orientation and Health & Safety
Plans. Tenders will be opened on April 22nd, 2008 at
6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Please contact the Municipal
Office for further details as to equipment required, etc. at

Tender – Gravel
Sealed
tenders marked “Tender – Gravel” will be received by the
Administrator, Ann Mitchell, until 4:00 p.m. on April 22nd,
2008 to supply, haul and spread up to 2,000 tonnes of: 7/8” crushed
gravel and pit run gravel. Please state price per ton and indicate
GST as extra if applicable for tender submitted. Tenders will be
opened on April 22nd, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council

Prince Township Logo Contest
ATTENTION ALL
ARTISTS!!
Prince
Township is looking for a new logo and they want YOU
to design it! What do you think of when you think of Prince? Depict
it in a picture or with a new slogan and you could WIN!
Prince is
asking all artists, young and old, to submitted a new logo design
for our Township between April 1st and April 30th,
2008. All entries must include the Designer’s Name, email, phone
number and age category. Some of the possible symbols that may be
included in your drawing are: windmills, lake superior, the Canadian
Shield, nature, air, quiet residential, the idea of a bedroom
community.
The Tourism
Committee will choose winners on the bases of originality, effort,
age, representation of the Township and overall attractiveness and
appeal of the design. The age categories will be children (1-10),
youth (11-17) and adult (18+). The Winning logo will be chosen
during May’s Tourism Meeting.
Either a
winning drawing will become the New Prince Logo or aspects of
several winning contributions will be combined to make one new logo,
with recognition from each contributor.

National
Volunteer Week is April 21st to May 3rd,
2008. Volunteers make a difference everyday! Here in Prince we are
recognizing and celebrating all of our volunteers hard work with the
annual Volunteer Dinner which will be held Saturday April19th, 2008
at 6:30 p.m.
Council Sub Committee
The
Council of the Township of Prince is setting up a Fire Department
sub committee of Council. There will be two members of Council, two
members of the Fire Department and two members of the community.

Museum and Historical Culture
The
Community Economic Development Office is developing a new ,
up-to-date, report and time-line of the historical events in Prince.
She is asking for assistance from local residents in completing this
historical background report. Residents can assist by submitting
photocopies of stories, pictures, newspaper articles, old flyers,
advertisements, etc, which are clearly dated.

Prince
Township Fun Day is Saturday, August 23rd, 2008.
MARK
YOUR CALENDARS!
The Annual Fun Day will be full of family fun with Inflatable Rides
and Games from Algoma Steel as well as tours of the Brookfield
Windfarm.
The
Recreation Committee is looking for volunteers to help make this
year’s Fun Day even bigger and better than last year. If you are
interested please contact any of the Recreation Committee Members
listed below. You can come to the meetings to help plan events or
just be put on a list to be called as needed in your area of
expertise.
We
meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 7pm. Our next meeting
will be April 15th, 2008.

Youth Council
Attention
all Kids and Teenagers!!
Wednesday,
May 7th, 2008, at 6:30pm, in the Community Centre, the
Recreation Committee is hosting their first Youth Council Meeting.
This meeting is to receive the input from the local youth to
determine what type of programs they would like to participate in.
Youth eligible to attend will range from 8 to 18 years of age.
There
will be no parental involvement and parents will not be permitted to
participate or attend this meeting. The Council will be organized,
conducted and supervised by Prince Township Councillor, Bobbi
Williamson, the Community Economic Development Officer, Margaret
Lacourciere, and a local Youth Outreach Worker from the YMCA
Employment & Community Services. The Youth Council will hold regular
meetings once a month.
Come
out and tell the Township what you want to happen in your town and
what kind of events you would like to participate in! Only YOU
can influence what happens in Prince!

Goose and Story Time
Come on out and enjoy Mother Goose
Time! We will be having interactive stories and songs with all
materials we use to take home to keep. Begins Wednesday, March 5,
2008 at 10:30am, for five weeks. We will be having these sessions
in our Prince Township Public Library. Come on out and enjoy some
singing and a story!
Circle Time
We will include a variety of fun,
interactive and hands-on activities for children reinforcing
listening and socialization skills. Every Monday, Tuesday, and
Thursday at 11:00am.
School
Readiness Program
This program is designed for
children ages 3-5 years old. It is a six week learning readiness
course, providing age appropriate and developmentally appropriate
instruction to children, which will enhance their entry into
kindergarten or other structured environments. Begins Tuesday, April
8, 2008 at RM Moore Public School from 1-2pm and 2-3pm, in the
junior kindergarten classroom. Registration is required. Please

Tiny
Tot Gym Time
This gross motor activity will
work on you and your child’s balance, coordination and cardio, while
playing fun games and singing songs. Begins Friday March 28, 2008
at 10:30pm for six weeks. Come on out and get some fun exercise!
123 to Literacy
123 to Literacy is a six week
program for parents and their children aged 2-6 years. We will have
fun, educational activities available to promote children’s language
and early literacy skills. These sessions will be on Wednesday,
beginning Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 from 10:30am to
11:30 am. You must

At the end of the
program, families will receive a free literacy bag filled with:

BOOK CLUB: Our next book selection will be JACKFISH: THE VANISHING
VILLAGE by Sarah Felix Burns. It will be held on Thursday May
1,2008, at 7:00 P.M. Sarah will be here to take part in our
discussion, and autograph your copy of her book. There are copies at
Coles in the Station Mall. She will also be at the Sault Ste. Marie
Library Main branch on April 24 between 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. for

A Resolution to
Support FONOM as the Unified Voice of Northeastern Ontario
WHEREAS the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM)
has represented the 110 municipalities in Northeastern Ontario for
the past 48 years; and
WHEREAS FONOM held a Leadership Summit in Timmins in October, 2007
where it was overwhelmingly supported by more than 200 participants
as the unified voice of Northeaster Ontario; and
WHEREAS as a result of that Summit the Federation of Northern
Ontario Municipalities has created the following seven task forces
to deal with priorities from the Summit – Natural Resources, Energy,
Business, Transportation, Education, Health and Government Services;
now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Township of Prince supports the
Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities as the Unified Voice
of Northeastern Ontario and in its creation of these task forces to
focus on these priorities; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded
to the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities. Carried.

A Resolution to
Support FONOM as the Unified Voice of Northeastern Ontario.
WHEREAS the Council of the Township of Prince has indicated its
support for the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM)
as the Unified Voice of Northeastern Ontario; and
WHEREAS FONOM has undertaken to form seven task forces to pursue the
major issues of concern to Northeastern Ontario; and
WHEREAS FONOM has suggested a fee of $0.05 per capita from its
member municipalities to help fund this ambitions research and
lobbying effort; now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Township of Prince hereby commits
financial support to FONOM in the amount of $0.05 per resident of
our municipality; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded
to the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities.

MAMMOTH
BOOK SALE, APRIL 3-5:
The Friends
of the Prince Township Library will hold this year’s Mammoth Book
Sale in the Station Mall from Thursday, April 3rd to
Saturday, April 5th. Transportation and set-up in the
mall will begin on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008.
The
Mammoth Book Sale offers hardcover and paperback books, jigsaw
puzzles, videotapes, and musical compact discs at low prices. Most
items sell for $1.00 or lower, so now’s the time to stock up on
summer reading.
If you
already have a houseful of gently used books (not yellowed or torn)
and working CDs and VHS tapes you don’t need, we’ll gladly accept
them as donations.
Our
Friends group also needs volunteers to transport, sort, and sell the
donated items. If you can work a two-hour shift, we’ll be happy to
have you join us. We also welcome high school students who want to
earn community service hours toward graduation.

The Tourism Committee
The
Township of Prince is looking for volunteers for a new Tourism
Committee. This Committee will be responsible for the new
development projects such as the Wind Farm Tours, the Marina and the
Prince Museum and Historical Culture.
Do
to the lack of attendance; the Tourism Committee still needs to
elect its board. We want to make the public aware that Prince
Council members WILL NOT BE PERMITTED to sit on the board of this
committee! Thus, we need additional residents to volunteer to become
board members for this committee.

Yard Sales Items Needed for Cherished Wings Parrot & Bird Rescue
Inc.
Cherished Wings is a
non-profit charitable organization that is a member of the Sault
Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce. Volunteers contribute all the
management and care staff services provided.
Presently,
donations for a yard sale are needed to raise funds to support our
work. All proceeds go directly to the care of the birds. Yard sale
items can include household items, clothes, children’s toys,
furniture etc. Items can be picked up at your home or dropped of at
the Prince Township Office or at Cherished Wings in Bruce Mines.
In addition,
we are accepting monetary donations, as well as, cages, toys and
equipment for the bird Rescue. Also, anyone can sponsor a bird for a

Prince Survey Results
The
results are in! As of March 27th, 2008, there have been a
total of 62 surveys returned to the Town Hall & Airways Store.
Demographic
Questions
Age
and Gender
The average age of
respondents was 57. The Median age (the absolute middle) age was
58. The Mode age (the number that occurred most often) was 59. The
youngest age was 30 and the oldest age was 82. Of the 61
respondents, 36 were male and 25 were female.
Education
Almost half of the
respondents, 43%, inputted that they were college or university
graduates. The second highest percentage, 20%, were high school
graduates, followed by those with some post secondary education,
15%, being fairly equivalent with Master’s and Doctorate graduates,
13%. Only 5% of respondents had only grammar school as their
highest level of education attained while another 5% prefer not to
answer the question.
Marital
Status
Prince is a family
town. 84% of respondents replied that they are married. Each
category of single common law, and divorced received 3% each and
there were 5% of respondents answered that they were widowed. Only

Employment
Status
Almost half, 43% of
the respondents work full-time, the while another 36% are retired.
Of the remaining respondents, 10% work part-time, 5% are
self-employed and 5% are homemakers. Only 2% of respondents are
unemployed.
Annual
Household Income
The average annual
household income is $40,000-$70,000, which is held by 25% of
respondents. Another 18% have a combined household annual income of
$70,000 - $100,000 and 13% receive more than $100,000 a year. This
is the same percentage, 13% that receives $40,000 or less a year.
However, 31% of respondents preferred not to answer this question,
which is reasonably understood, this is usually the question least
answer on any survey.
Living
in Prince
Of all the
respondents from the survey, 72% moved to Prince as an adult. Of
these, 43% moved from Sault Ste. Marie, 18% from Northern Ontario,
8% from Southern Ontario and 3% moved from Alberta.
Land
Separation
Of the respondents of
this question, 38% live closer than 30 meters to their nearest
neighbour, 26% live between 30 meters and 60 meters to their nearest
neighbour, 23% live between 60 meters and 90 meters to their nearest
neighbour, and 8% live more than 90 meters to their nearest
neighbour. A total of 84% of respondents are satisfied with the
separation in their area.
Animals
Just under half of
the respondents, 46%, have animals. According to this survey, The
most common type of pets are dogs, 41%, then cats, 26%, horses, 22%,
and other animals, 10%, such as fish, birds and cows.

Average Respondent
The average
respondent is a male of 57 years old that is married with a wife of
53 years of age. He is a college or university graduate that is
employed full-time with a household income of between $40,000 -
$70,000. This resident has moved to Prince as an adult from Saul
Ste Marie and is not planning to move from Prince in the next 5
years. His nearest neighbour is closer than 30 meters and he is
satisfied with the separation in his area. He also has a dog.
